What is the statute of limitations on a perfect game? How long does someone get to be relevant based solely on the strength of one brilliant afternoon? If a pitcher throws a perfect game how long do people care about him before he has to do something that matters again? A month? a year? A career? Forever? All I can say is, I hope that we are getting close because my interest in Dallas Braden and all things ‘209’ related ended right after his grandmother told A-Rod to ‘stick it!’.
The A’s have started selling “Get Off My Mound!” t-shirts with a silhouette of Braden on the front. The phrase, of course, is an homage to Braden yelling at Yankee tanning booth All-Star Alex Rodriguez after A-Rod cut across the dirt of the pitching mound.
Braden is not pleased.
"It's just not cool," said Braden, who pitched a perfect game against the Rays on May 9. "It's just a serious, gross lack of tact. At the end of the day, I hope I do not become associated with that kind of approach."
You are? You’re sorry? Why? You are the one who embraced and promoted the image of the bad-ass ‘209’er’ who doesn’t take any crap from anyone, not even A-Rod. You are the one who gets off on people telling you how hard nosed you are, how old school your approach is. You are the one who won’t stop talking even though you are the baseball equivalent of Toni Basil.
You can’t create a mess and then pretend you don’t like it when people continue to do the same stupid things you did only a few months ago.
How about this for a deal? The A’s will stop making the t-shirts in exchange for you agreeing to a return to complete anonymity and irrelevance. The t-shirts go away as soon as the samurai swords, tattoos and everyone who refers to their home town by their area codes agree to go away first.
Deal? Deal.
Damn the Rays for giving a mediocre pitcher a lifetime place in the record books. This is why you should not spend your entire night drinking before a day game.
just pissed one of his posse didn't think of merchandising angle first so he gets full profits
